How to protect your bank account from fraudsters

by Bongiwe Tshiqi

Fraud Specialist at FNB Credit Card Henk Vermeulen says need to be aware and responsible for protecting your card details at all times.

He gives us three key tips that will come in handy and protect you and your money these holidays.

By: Boitumelo Mmakou

1.NEVER CLICK LINK

For your online bank use, refrain from clicking on a link sent to you, even if it looks authentic. Henk warns that this is a common way of trying to get your details under false pretences. Make sure that there is a small locked padlock symbol next to the web address. This means that the site is encrypted and is the universal symbol indicating it is secure.

2. PROTECT YOUR PIN

Look after your PIN as though it was the key to a safe. You should never write it down or store it somewhere such as in your phone. Also don’t be tempted to share your PIN.

3. KEEP AN EYE OUT AT THE ATM

Don’t draw money if the ATM has a blank screen and never force your card into an ATM slot. Immediately cancel your card if it is swallowed or if you even have a small suspicion that there might have been fraudulent activity.
