Guitarist Sibusile Xaba shares his musical journey with Fundiswa Nkwanyana.
My favourite childhood memory is listening and dancing to music with my family. We had a rule that when someone’s favourite song played, the volume would be turned up and everybody would sing and dance to it. It was a lot of fun and I believe this is how my love for music began. In high school, I was already coordinating music concerts and performing at local shows. After matric, I moved from KwaZulu-Natal to Pretoria to study music at the Ochrim School of Music. I later went to the Tshwane University of Technology.

I create music from deep within my soul. My music has a soulful jazz and traditional Zulu element, which come from my ancestors and the universe. The inspiration comes from my dreams, and I don’t have to search for it. When I was working on my album titled Open Letter To Adoniah, I literally dreamt about it. I believe that I was chosen to create music that encourages love, peace, and happiness.
I’m looking forward to performing at the upcoming Littlegig Festival. I’m excited that people will be coming to the festival to create happy memories in a scenic environment with delicious food and great music. I’m honoured to be a part of the line-up. I will deliver emotive and thought-provoking songs that people will enjoy.

This year, I’m planning on sharing my music with more people. I’m grateful that people love my music and there is a demand for it. I want to share it with them through intimate performances. It’s going to be a great year, filled with music and love.
The Littlegig Festival will take place in Cape Town from 17 to 18 February 2018.
