When I think back to my childhood, I remember moments like this with my brother Craig. We grew up on the South Side of Chicago, in a diverse and changing neighborhood, hanging out with friends from all backgrounds. Today, I’ve got my old neighborhood on my mind as the @ObamaFoundation announces its third #ObamaSummit, which will take place not far from where this picture was taken. At the summit, we’ll welcome authors and artists, luminaries, and leaders to the South Side for a special conversation about how places like these reveal our purpose and make us into the people we’ve become. @BarackObama and I will share our own stories too—about how Chicago shaped our journey and how we hope the Obama Presidential Center will shape the journeys of others. You can join in by visiting obama.org, submitting a photo of a place that shaped you, and letting us know how that place gives you purpose. Can’t wait to hear your stories.

Once upon a a time in the life of Xolile Tshabalala. Pure innocence. National school of the arts. Drama school the best years of my life. Tough but I endured. Like my afro I rise. Proudly self, proudly African that is all I can be.

Yes Pasi, you did it… grew up and became exactly who you were meant to be! Continue to rise little girl, Superwoman has nothing on you! You are the one, you are love ❤️ I wish you knew then what you know now… but let’s be even more grateful that we know what we know now! I love you always… #6DaysToGo #BirthdayCountdown #12April #1976Model #44Loading #CelebratingLife

Not quite a ‘94 pic and not TBThursday, but this is a pic that signaled freedom for me. Matric year brought the freedom to make serious decisions about my life, leave school and home, and the freedom to begin the life of independence I was so hungry for. So today I’m reminded of freedom and what it means to me now, so many years later. Freedom to be myself, freedom to be unique. Freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. Freedom to love and allow myself to be loved. Freedom to express myself without fear. Freedom to write the chapters of my life as I so please. Let’s celebrate Freedom. Happy Freedom Day #FreedomDay #WhatAreYourFreedoms #FreeToBe #KatlegoDanke

Lol. I greet you all in the name of our queen @zozitunzi This is about 20 years ago during the days of the 3 point turn ?. I didn’t do too badly for the Tomboy in me who didn’t want to participate in the first place. The person who blackmailed me into participating will out themselves in the comments ?

Here. I miss being little and taking naps. Lockdown feels like being little but anxiety is preventing naps. In these tough and precarious times , naps are essential . Rx! #tbf #babyMasasa #naps #lockdowndiaries #anxiety #mentalhealth #overwhelmed
