Candy apples

Now you can make the classic candy apples treat at home using this easy to follow recipe by Ntwenhle Gcabashe

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Serves: 4

  • 4 small apples
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups (500ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) red colouring

  1. Heat sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring it to boil until it reaches hard ball stage (pour a spoonful of the mixture into the bowl of water, it should hold together in a firm ball).
  2. Remove from heat, add colouring and mix well.
  3. Dip each apple into the candy mixture, coat thoroughly. Transfer to the lightly greased baking tray. Let it cool until the candy has fully hardened.
  4. Serve
