Following his comments (in response to media inquiries) last weekend on his daughter’s alleged relationship with her former manager and boyfriend, Babes Wodumo‘s father, Reverend Welcome Simelane has issued a statement. According to Sowetan Live, the Reverend expressed his displeasure at how the show’s presenter Masechaba Ndovu handled the interview where she made claims of Babes being abused by Mampintsha.

Nchoo guys my parents are everything to me though. Sunday was extra special because of their presence. Yep God has granted me another year to shine and reach beyond the stars. Thank you again to everyone that made my day so special. #MysurpriseBirthdayDinner #WestInkRecord ?@starlight_picturez

The Reverend said his daughter was “caught off guard” during the interview and that the family was not aware of the claims.

“Metro FM left us with many unanswered questions. It was clear from the interview that our daughter was not ready and was caught off guard by the presenter. We hope responses about this interview will come from those relevant‚” said the Reverend.

“We were shocked to hear about it (the alleged abuse)‚ we want the nation to know that we are against any kind of abuse against women. We were not even aware they were dating.”

Additionally, he revealed that Babes is now an independent artist and her own record label, Wena Wodumo Entertainment. He also went to thank Mampintsha for the contribution to Babes’ career saying “…we thank Mandla Maphumulo for discovering talent in Babes and grooming her to be where she currently is. We thank all those who supported our daughter‚ it’s truly showed how much she is loved.”
