by Amanda Ndlangisa

Mduduzi Mabaso (popularly known as Suffocate on etv’s Rhythm City) and wife Fathima talk all things love

Mdu-and-fathima-

How did you meet Fatima?

We met in 2007, while I was shooting Zone 14 II. My wife worked at the show’s production office. We’ve been married for three years now.

What made you marry Fatima?

Her amazing personality drew me to her, she’s calm and collected, which are qualities that assured me she was the one. Her beauty was a bonus.

What made you say yes Fatima?

I found him mysterious and humble. He’s also quite the charmer and very romantic. He must have courted me for a year or so before I said yes.

What do you love most about each other?

Mduduzi: She respects me. She’s a great cook; she’s also my personal stylist but mostly she’s my best friend.
Fatima: I love his honesty, even though he can be blunt at times. He really cares for me and makes me feel loved at all times.

Does working in the same industry have any effects on your relationship?

Fatima: No, it makes us understand firsthand the pressures of the entertainment industry. I let him be with his fans because I know it is the nature of his career and his fans appreciate his work.

How do you spend quality time together?

We hang out mostly with our two boys at home. I love taking her out to dinner once in a while; she really likes that.

Fatima, how do you feel about Mduduzi’s character, Suffocate on Rhythm City?

It is always a proud moment. I play both his biggest fan and critic. Mdu is good at what he does, he respects his craft and he’s absolutely entertaining as you never know what new lingo he’s going to come up with. (Laughs)

What advice would you guys give to a newlywed couple?

Marriage is not a game it’s a commitment. Love each other; embrace each other’s flaws and good qualities. Respect each other, communicate and always trust in God.
