A life well lived. This would be the perfect way of concluding a eulogy to a pet who had a massive impact on those around him.

Bobi, the world’s oldest dog has passed away after achieving the unthinkable by living a whopping 31 years – a world record for a dog.

The news was announced by Guinness World Records on Monday.

In a statement on Instagram Bobi’s veterinarian Dr Karen Becker penned a heartfelt statement in memory of his life.

“Is there ever enough time ?? I think not. Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings ?️. Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough for those who loved him.”

She later added: “When we asked Leonel what his recipe was for Bobi’s exceptionally long life, his response was swift: ‘Good nutrition, constant contact with nature, freedom to discover his environment, consistent veterinary care, and love.’ Bobi knows he’s deeply loved.”

“Godspeed, Bobi…you’ve taught the world all you were meant to teach ?❤️‍??.”

Leonel Costa who has been Bobi’s owner since he was 8 years old told Guinness World Records that Bobi nearly did not make it to see his first birthday, since his parents already had too many pets and wanted to kill the rest of the puppies. In attempting to do so, the adorable dog was missed and this was when Costa and his brothers got hold of him ahead of their parents.

He confessed that he and his siblings hid and fed the dog for as long as they could until they were eventually caught and punished. Despite this, he does not regret their decision a single bit.

In an interview with the British media company BBC, Leonel revealed that Bobi recently had complications with his eyesight but later died as peacefully as the life he lived.

Bobi’s lifespan 0f 31 years surpassed the record previously held by an Australian cattle dog Bluey who lived 29 years and five months.
