How to make the perfect margarita

Name a more refreshing cocktail than a perfect Margarita, we’ll wait…

The Margarita is a timeless and refreshing drink – shaken, frozen or non-alcoholic! With its tangy citrus flavours and a touch of tequila, it’s the perfect companion for entertaining summer afternoons, festive gatherings, or simply a relaxing evening.

If you aren’t in the mood to head over to the bar, we’ll teach you how to make one at home!

How to make the perfect Margarita cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 50ml tequila (blanco or reposado for a smoother taste)
  • 25ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 20ml orange liqueur (triple sec or Cointreau)
  • 10ml oz simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • Salt for rimming the glass
  • Lime wheel for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions:

  1. Rim the glass: Begin by running a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and then dip the rim into a plate of salt, creating a salted rim.
  2. Shake it up: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple syrup. Shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients.
  3. Strain and serve: Strain the mixture into the salt-rimmed glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim.
  4. Enjoy: Sip and savour the well-balanced flavours of tangy lime, smooth tequila, and the sweet hint of orange liqueur. Adjust the simple syrup to your taste preference – some like it sweeter, while others prefer a more tart profile.

And a non-alcoholic version…

Ingredients:

  • 25ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 25ml fresh orange juice
  • 20ml agave syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 2-3 dashes of bitters (optional, for complexity)
  • Soda water
  • Lime wheel and/or orange slice for garnish
  • Ice

Whether you’re a fan of the classic Margarita cocktail or prefer a non-alcoholic twist, the classic version offers a harmonious balance of citrus, tequila, and sweetness, while the non-alcoholic mocktail provides the same refreshing sensation without the alcohol.

Sounds delicious…cheers!
