Fear of flying can be a hindrance for some people, imagine taking an eight hour journey to somewhere when you can fly there for only two hours.

By the time you get to where you need to be you would’ve wasted 6 hours and be jet-legged.

For some, it’s a mental state of mind and for others it could just be overthinking.

According to Ora Nadrich, a certified mindfulness meditation instructor and life coach, “Some of the primary reasons some people are afraid to fly are a fear of crashing, a fear of being out of control, a fear of the unknown, a fear of heights, having lost a loved one in a plane crash and a feeling.”

To many challenges, there can be solutions in getting over your fears.

However, Medical News Today states that some people who have the fear of flights or aviophobia are normally scared the noises that the plane will make, from take- off, the plane landing or a slight turbulence.

Whatever the case may be, flights are convenient for a busy work life especially if you are traveling back and forth between provinces or travelling abroad.

Here are some of the tips you need to know and recommended by Medical News Today on how to get over your fear of flying:

Accept your fear of flying

Whenever your fear starts to mount, instead of pushing it away, accept it. Jonathan Bricker, Ph.D. — a psychologist from the University of Washington in Seattle says, “the more you don’t want to be worried, the more the feeling will come back.”

Acknowledge that you’re worried but also make yourself understand that it is just fear by reminding yourself why you’re flying in the first place.

Breathing techniques

Learn breathing exercises, once you have acknowledged your fear, breathe to prevent your anxiety from escalating. If your mind attempts to wander away to fearful scenarios, bring your attention back to your breathing until you become calmer.

The positive side

Evidently, if you have the fear of flying the only thing you think about is worst case scenarios, from getting to the airport to boarding the plane.

Make it about your experience, document your time from the airport, arrive on time, have coffee and do everything on time, by doing this you’re feeding your mind of positivity and letting go of your anxiety.
