Gen Zers are often told that they should be weary of what they post online because it might damage their careers, however, in Nitsha’s case, social media is how she got her job.
Due to her TikTok presence, her friend connected her with a CEO looking to hire a new social media manager.
When she applied, instead of using the traditional method of applying with a resume and a cover letter, she shared her TikTok account, media kit, and website. This helped showcase her skillful application and creativity.
According to Insider, she reports that the CEO went through her content and saw her as a self-starter, someone who would easily be able to adapt to a new working environment, which is something that they wanted.
Although this method has granted Nitsha quite a bit of success, she wants other Gen Zers to understand that not all companies will be as receptive to this kind of approach. Part of the reason her approach was so successful was because of the type of industry she is in. The LA agency she applied to desired creative and innovative workers, which made taking the risk much easier. Furthermore, she claims that her application contained metrics proving her success, like any résumé should.
Ultimately, when it comes to Nitsha’s case, it’s all about luck and the industry you wish to join. If you plan on applying for a job outside of the creative content industry, it’s best to just stick to the traditional résumé and cover letter combo.
