Underarm discolouration can be caused by many reasons, with the primary reason being the repeated exposure to irritating and drying chemicals, accompanied by the hair removal techniques that we expose our armpits to.

To combat this issue, people often turn to natural remedies for their rescue.

Here are five natural remedies suggested which contain natural bleaching properties.

Potatoes:

Azelaic acid is a compound found in potatoes that possesses properties that can aid towards gradually improving hyperpigmentation, as mild bleaching properties present in potatoes reduce the melanin production.

How to use:

Healthline – a website dedicated to making health and wellness information accessible to readers – advises that one grates the potato to extract the juices. After grating the potato, squeeze the potato juice and apply it to your underarms. After 10 minutes, rinse your underarm with cool water.

Aloe Vera:

According to Be Bodywise , an expert-led wellness revolution, aloe vera contains cleansing and medicinal properties that work sufficiently to aid towards lightening dark areas.

How to use:

Be Bodywise further guides you on the application process, stating that one must apply aloe vera gel for approximately 15 minutes prior to washing it off. To extend its shelf life, ensure that you keep it in the fridge to preserve its nutrients and beneficial compounds.

Baking Soda:

This exfoliator is known for its incredible bleaching properties.

How to use:

Healthline suggests that you mix “a quarter teaspoon of baking soda with a small amount of lukewarm water” until the consistency of the mixture forms a paste. Apply the paste for 15 minutes and rinse thoroughly.

Turmeric:

As explained by Healthline, “Turmeric’s health benefits stem from curcumin, a bioactive component with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.”

How to use:

In a container, mix one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of turmeric, as well as one tablespoon of yoghurt. Stir this mixture until it forms a paste-like consistency. Apply sparingly to underarm and leave it there for about 10 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.

Apple Cider Vinegar:

As indicated by Be Bodywise, Apple cider vinegar contains properties that can aid towards the removal of any hyperpigmentation on skin as it contains mild agents that are natural cleansers.

How to use:

Based on the steps given by Be Bodywise, add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a bowl and balance it with an equal amount of baking soda. The mixture should bubble. Once this has cooled down, apply the paste and rinse after 20 minutes.
