Review: Ritsako Game Lodge

by Bridgette Matjuda

Fundiswa Nkwanyana tells us about her one-night stay at the lodge where she was surrounded by nature and wildlife.

Situated 45km north of Pretoria within the Dinokeng Game Reserve, Ritsako Game Lodge is about one and half hours’ drive from Johannesburg.

Ambience
I loved that from within the lodge I could see the animals through the electric fence while sipping on a cocktail by the pool. The pristine pool with comfortable chairs to lounge on is welcoming and peaceful.

Bedrooms
There is a variety of rooms to choose from at Ritsako Game Lodge and they are decorated using a modern African theme that ties in well with the thatched roof. I felt like I was the first person to sleep in the room because it was very crisp and clean.

Brahman Hills: A home away from home

Afternoon game drive
The Dinokeng Game Reserve is home to the big five as well as brown hyenas, giraffes, bucks, zebras and other wild animals. A guide and an animal tracker took me and a small group of tourists on an afternoon game drive just when the sun was about the set. The animal tracker led the way and the guide gave in-depth information about all the animals in the reserve. During the two-hour drive, we had a picnic overlooking a beautiful lake with hippos dipping in and out of the water. I was excited that the game drive vehicle got really close to the animals.

There is so much to do and see in and around the lodge. I got a full body massage, enjoyed scrumptious meals from Ritsako restaurant and caught up some reading and as I watched the animals roaming freely. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely be going back.
