As the winter season approaches hence the cold and flu viruses are about to take over, however there are some simple ways to help boost you immune system, fend off sickness, and stay healthy—even through the coldest months of the year.

Wash your hands

Make a habit of washing your hands every time you come home or use the bathroom, and before and after every meal. Use warm water and soap and scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Try not to touch your face when you’re outside.

Get a flu shot and other vaccinations

By getting vaccinated, you are not only protecting yourself, but other susceptible people like children and the elderly.

Get those victim D

Because it is cold outside, it can be hard to get the necessary vitamin D to keep mood- boosting hormones level. A lack of sunshine and vitamin D may cause seasonal depression and other illnesses because we forget the importance of being in the sun. So, when the sun is out make sure to head outdoors for an hour or two a day, when possible, to make sure that you are still getting vitamin D. If this isn’t an option for you, consume foods that are good sources of vitamin D.

Get enough sleep

Getting enough rest is critical for keeping your immune system strong and healthy since your body regenerates when you sleep. Try to aim for at least seven to eight hours of sleep a night.

Consider taking supplements

A multi-vitamin can be very helpful for boosting the immune system year-round. During the winter month, trying to increase the consumption of zinc, which has shown to help in fighting off respiratory viruses, while adding vitamins C, D, and B12 may be helpful during the winter season.

Lastly, don’t forget to keep active through exercising, consuming those veggies and drinking loads of water so that you and your family can stay healthy and strong all year round.
