4 Protective hairstyles we can’t wait to try this winter

by Bongiwe Tshiqi

Winter really puts our natural hair through its paces. The dry and cold air causes it to break easily and lack shine and moisture. For these reasons it’s advisable to cover it and protect it. This doesn’t just have to mean whipping out last year’s hairstyle though.

Here are 4 hair trends we are definitely going to be trying this season. Your fave?

1. Faux locs

Faux locs are the hottest hair trend currently. While most people are under the misconception that they give you a casual appearance, Nomzamo Mbatha proves that you can also rock them stylishly for a formal do.

2. Creative plaits

You don’t have to rehash the same old plaits year in and year out. A number of women are getting very artistic with their plaits and it’s fantastic. Here are just a few of the best examples we’ve found.

3. Playing with Colour

Who said winter has to be all about greys and blacks. Inject some colour with vibrant and interesting colour choices for your braids/weaves. We especially adore the sorbet colours seen on stars like K. Michelle.

4. The short wavy bob

We absolutely adore this cute hairstyle. It’s a nice twist on the sleek look that was so big last year and it’s much easier to manage than your longer curly weaves/wigs.

When someone is waaaaayyy too close at the ATM and you start with the casual look back like “perhaps you don’t know you are breathing on my neck” … then the look back says “Alright now, I was trying to be nice about this…” and Finally “Whatchu wanna do sucka?!? You feelin froggy? This. Is. Not. A. Game.” Cut by @larryjarahsims …I’m obsessed ?? @flawlesshairdayI
