Beauty Trend: Cleaning your make-up sponges in the microwave

When it comes to cleaning makeup sponges, there’s a beauty hack that’s been circulating the internet for the past couple of years. Several people have reported success with cleaning makeup sponges in the microwave, removing all built-up makeup residue and achieving a squeaky-clean appearance.

If there is one thing that all beauty enthusiasts have in common, it is a love of beauty hacks. This is especially true when it comes to cleaning our beloved egg-shaped makeup sponges, which may be brimming with germs. We could replace the sponges as soon as they start to look worn, but the cost quickly adds up!

Here’s how it’s supposed to work:

Take out your dirty makeup sponges

Because of the foundation and liquid highlighters that you may use, your sponges can become quite dirty, and getting it all off can be difficult. It’s also possible that your gleaming sponges are clean on the outside but are clogged with dirt and grime on the inside. So, gather all of your dirty makeup sponges and place them in a bowl.

Take out your soap

Squeeze a small amount of shampoo or body wash into the bottom of a microwave-safe container. Fill the container halfway with water and thoroughly mix the liquid.

Place your makeup sponge in soapy water and microwave it on high for 30 seconds

Place the dirty makeup sponge (only one at a time) in the microwave-safe container with the soapy water for about one minute. Keep in mind, however, that if you microwave your sponges without the cup, they will melt.

Take out your sponge

Allow the water to cool for a minute before attempting to remove your makeup sponge, or you will burn your hand. Next, squeeze the water from the makeup sponge and rinse it under running water until the water runs clear.

If your beauty blender comes out looking only a tad cleaner, repeat the entire process one more time.
