Zandie Khumalo responds to R22M Netflix deal allegations

Sisters Kelly Khumalo and Zandile ‘Zandie’ Khumalo-Gumede were rumoured to have signed a R22 million deal with Netflix to share the tragic story of the late soccer star and Kelly’s former partner Senzo Meyiwa. Zandie has, however, squashed these rumours on her social media.

Senzo, who was the goalkeeper and captain for both Orlando Pirates in the Premiere Soccer League, and the South Africa national team, was shot and killed on 26 October 2014.

The news of the alleged deal was shared on X (formerly Twitter) when a social media user, who uses the handle @joy_zelda, wrote the following:

“BREAKING NEWS: Kelly Khumalo and Zandile Khumalo Gumede have signed a R22 million deal with Netflix to produce a docu-series about the events that took place in the house the day Senzo Meyiwa was killed.”

Many responded to the allegations in disbelief.

“I hope this is not real because it will be very biased,” said one X user.

“@NetflixSA obviously we will cancel our subscription,” said another.

After the X post was seen by Zandie, she took to Instagram to refute the claims. She wrote, “It’s always funny AF when I find out things about myself that I didn’t even know about myself ??. Anyway don’t let them defocus u bafuna silahlekelwe ifocus (they want us to lose focus), like me just keep your eye on the prize and the only thing we are focusing on right now is the release of my new single.”
