
The award-winning song writer and singer Bulelwa Mkutukana best known by her stage name, Zahara shows gratitude to the Cape Town community after she was surprised by several performances at the airport when she landed. She visited Cape Town because she had a performance at the Botanik Social House.
Zahara was born in the Eastern Cape in a small village called Phumlani in the East London settlement, she is popularly known for her single hit, ‘Loliwe. She started singing at the age of 6 years where she sang in a school choir and at the age of 9 she joined the senior choir because of her strong voice. Her music is classified as Afro-soul and what makes her stand out is that she sings in her native language, Xhosa and plays a guitar.
Her first album, ‘Loliwe’ that had its first issue sold out in 72 hours was released in 2011 after busking through the streets of East London to find her ground. The singer is now seen on her reality show, ‘As I rise’, which follows through her life and healing journey.
