Summer is fast approaching, and nothing says summer more than amazing sunsets, evening picnics, hikes before dawn, camping and long family road trips.

So, say goodbye to the rain, the wind, the thick winter blanket, the layers of clothing – and hello summer!

What will make the new season even more fantastic are the memories we make along the way, and nothing brings back wonderful memories like music that fills you with nostalgia.

No matter where you are in the country, here are 10 songs that will keep you entertained while you are on the road.

Master KG – Jerusalema

The song by record producer Master KG and vocalist Nomcebo was first released in 2019 and since then became an instant sensation all over the world. The upbeat tempo is one that guarantees that you’ll get onto the dance floor.

Following its release, the song achieved instant success on online platforms and became popular among international celebs like Cristiano Ronaldo and many others, this led to the creation of the Jerusalema dance challenge on TikTok.

Malaika – Mhla ‘Uphel’ Amandla

Released in 2003, Mhpla Amandla is a South African classic. If you grew up during the early 2000’s this song will not only get you moving and singing along, but it will also bring back some of your most youthful memories.

Michael Buble – It’s a beautiful day

The perfect song to lift the mood whenever the road ahead feels too long. Released as the first single from his album, To Be Loved, in 2013, the song achieved great success. Some of its biggest accolades includes peaking at number 10 on the UK Singles Chart and reaching the top five in Belgium, Finland, Indonesia and Japan.

Rascal Flatts – Highway

If you are familiar with Disney/Pixar animation Cars, then this is a song you might recognize. The song was originally sung by Tom Cochraine (1991) but later was re-recorded by Rascal Flatts specifically for the animation. Regardless of which version you prefer, it will not affect your experience of your trip.

Elton John ft Dua Lipa – Cold Heart

This is a lockdown remake of Elton John’s, only this time its features a much younger artist in the form of British born pop singer Dua Lipa as well as the Dance group Pnau.

Toto – Africa

If you are finding yourself in nature, whether for a hike or safari, there is nothing that says ‘Africa’ more than this song.  It’s an all-time classic and a South African favourite.

Joy – Paradise Road

Written and recorded in 1980, this song topped the hit parade for nine weeks. It is widely considered to be South Africa’s ‘second’ national anthem as it resonated with what took place in our country during that time. Meanwhile, this is a song many are familiar with, and is ideal to sing along to on those family trips.
