Former Generations star Sonia Mbele was reportedly a no-show at the Johannesburg magistrate’s court after being charged with failing to submit tax returns to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

Sonia, who is also a director for the company Real Housewives of South Africa, was charged alongside her business partners Yolisa Gqunta and Rebone Sesing for allegedly contravening the Tax Administration Act, reports TshisaLIVE. According to The South African, Sonia was expected to appear in court on Wednesday, 27 September.

A statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) read the following:

“The directors in relation to their company, Real Housewives of South Africa, are facing 42 counts of not filing company income tax from 2019 to 2022, not filing their Value Added Tax (VAT) returns from 2020 to 2022 and also not filing their Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) from 2020 until 2022.”

The above-mentioned publication also reports that Sonia submitted a medical certificate booking her off until 3 October through her lawyer. However, the magistrate regarded the medical certificate unsuitable and would not accept it.

The actress’ co-accused, who reportedly opted for legal aid and are waiting to hear if they qualify, mentioned that they are not on speaking terms with Sonia, nor do they know her whereabouts.

Sonia was last active on social media, specifically Instagram, on 20 September where she spoke about returning to a beauty spa she frequented.
