Siya Metane, popularly known as Slikour, recently debuted his autobiography, Slikour: The Life Story Of A Hip-Hop Pioneer.

Slikour shared the news on Instagram. He wrote, “Take a rap name make it bigger than you, turn it to a platform, then a business that’s acquired, buy it back, grow its equity to sell it for a higher price, but in the meantime while you do that, put it on a book cover.”

He thanked journalist Helen Herimbi-Moremi for pushing him. “…without you we not here.”

The former Skwatta Kamp member then reminisced about what his mother had once told him, “the humiliating job rejections” and the life of fame. He concluded, “I’d love you to read this book and see how one small energy (me) triggered the movement of culture. I’m about to open a new chapter in my life but first let me share the old chapter.”

Publishing company Penguin Random House South Africa describes the memoir as being told with signature humour. “[T]his memoir gives readers an all-access pass to the moments and the music that made the man, detailing the courage it took to overcome his self-doubt and to mould himself into a media maverick.”

The publisher also shares that the book features never-known experiences and includes big names such as Kwaito musician Zola, media personality Bonang Matheba, rapper Kwesta, and the brands KFC, Coca-Cola, Butan and Kaizer Chiefs.
