Award-winning singer-songwriter Simphiwe Dana has reportedly broken up with her former lover, Phumeza Matshikiza. Phumeza is an international opera singer based in Berlin, Germany. According to ZiMoja, the couple went their separate ways after nearly three years of dating.

Simphiwe came out publicly on her Twitter page in 2020. She became a major topic of discussion after coming out and started trending on social media. She was met with mostly positive reactions from her fans and followers. She further went on to say that she was aware that coming out would lead to some mixed reactions. Even if people blocked her and didn’t support her following her announcement, she said that was going to marry a woman regardless.

The couple announced their engagement in December 2020, after being together for almost a year. “It took me a long time to accept that I’m queer. And please, take it from me, I have never lied to you. I’m now getting married to the most amazing person. I need you to be happy for me,” Simphiwe posted on social media in March 2021.

Unfortunately, their relationship came to an end. A source close to ZiMoja claims that the couple separated amicably, further adding that there is no animosity between the two. The source also claims that Simphiwe has already moved on. When called to comment on the situation, she refused as she does not wish to share her personal business in the media. “Unfortunately. I won’t discuss my personal affairs with the media,” she stated.
