SA fans react to Uncle Waffles’ BET nomination representing Eswatini

Congratulations are in order to Uncle Waffles who bagged a nomination from the BET Awards for Best International Act. Although many South Africans are happy about her latest achievement, some can’t help to mention their discomfort that the awards show wrote Swaziland (now known as Eswatini) next to the amapiano DJ’s name instead of South Africa.

“Oh that’s crazy.” tweeted Uncle Waffles about the news of her nomination.

Many South Africans shared their congratulatory messages with the DJ… as well as their confusion.

Some tweeps also came to Uncle Waffles’ defence.

This is just senseless you guys cos BET is for the black culture and uncle waffles is also black coming from eswatini ? and just because her music was recognized much in SA doesn’t mean she has change places ? #unclewaffles #swaziland https://t.co/sIqCvABaz0
