Priddy Ugly on Thula Mama collab with HHP

After a Priddy Ugly fan revealed that their favourite song from the rapper was Thula Mama featuring Reba Red and the late HHP, Priddy shared the heartwarming story of how the song came to life.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Priddy mentioned that the song came from a series of X posts. “HHP had just heard a song titled Thola Zaka that I was featured on & tweeted about me. I reposted his tweet & he followed me & read my tweets & proceeded to DM me about those particular series of tweets, he asked if they were from a song, I said that they were just tweets that happened to rhyme. He told me to compile them all & make a song out of them.”

The story of this record is crazy.

It came from a series of tweets that I was posting at the time. HHP had just heard a song titled Thola Zaka that I was featured on & tweeted about me.

Priddy states he then sent HHP – who also went by the name Jabba –  the song and scheduled a day to record the hit. However, on the day, Priddy had to run errands with his mother, which unfortunately took longer than expected, and forgot his phone at home.

“By the time I got back home, I had over 20 missed calls from Jabba. The security at the estate we were having the session at said he [HHP] came & waited for 4 hours in his car before eventually leaving. The security knew who he was but couldn’t let him in because he hadn’t been granted access.”

I sent Jabba the song, he loved it.

On the day we had scheduled for him to pull up on me, my mother made me go & run errands with her, & I forgot my phone at home, we were gone for hours.

Priddy (whose real name is Ricardo Moloi), adds that he was disappointed with himself for letting late rapper down. “He sent me a text 2 hours later stating that he had to leave to go fetch his son from school & would come back in the evening, bare in mind we didn’t live in close proximity to one another.”

Despite the missed calls, HHP had still entered with a warm reception.

“Eventually midnight hit & I told him that we needed to go out to do a show at Cantare, he asked if we could spare him 10 minutes,” writes Priddy. “We did, he went outside to meditate, came back after five minutes, recorded his verse, one take, no pen, no phone, no pad. The next day, he even got his guitarist to add extra production at no charge. A really great guy, I miss him.”

Disappointed at myself for letting Jabba down, I embarrassingly tried to call him back, he didn’t answer.
