Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s brand-new Minister of Electricity, has already gone viral – for his dance moves.

In a video clip posted on Twitter, Ramokgopa is seen dancing and vibing to music at a party and clearly living his best life.

“Ladies & Gentlemen meet Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, Minister of Electricity. A qualified Civil Engineer is expected to solve electrical issues,” the tweet said.

Tweeps commenting on the clip were amused at his high energy and seemingly care-free attitude. Others hoped that his energy was carried over to his new position.

BusinessTech reported that before his new appointment, Ramokgopa was head of the Investment and Infrastructure Office in the Presidency, from 2019. He was also the executive Mayor of Tshwane from 2010 to 2016.

He was also the CEO of both the Metropolitan Trading Company and the Johannesburg Market and has an impressive set of academic qualifications that include a Master’s Degree in Business Leadership and a PhD in Public Affairs.

Ramaphosa said during his Cabinet reshuffle on Monday that Ramokgopa would remain in charge of the country’s electricity until the energy crisis had been solved.

“The primary task of the new minister will be to significantly reduce the severity and frequency of load shedding (electricity outages) as a matter of urgency.”
