Netizens react to MacG claiming Tyla’s ‘numbers are manufactured’

Amapiano star Tyla has been taking the world by storm with her hit single Water. Appearing on international radio stations and talk shows, the singer has achieved much success with numbers, which podcaster MacG feels has been fabricated.

On an episode of Podcast and Chill with MacG, the host shared that he spoke with controversial music executive Nota Baloyi about Tyla’s international fame and success. MacG said to his co-hosts Sol Penduka and Ghost Lady, “You know this is Nota, you don’t know if this is true or not but I think he’s onto something. He says that should have been Sho Majozi.”

MacG then goes on to explain that Sho Majozi allegedly dated and broke up with a videographer who then started dating Tyla. “He took [Tyla] to America. You know when Sho Majozi was on John Cena [her song] and doing all these things? There was a team behind that. That team is now on Tyla, they’re focusing on Tyla. They’re pushing her like crazy.”

Sol then states that one cannot assume that because Sho Majozi had the resources Tyla has, she would have reached the same international success, emphasising how timing plays a factor.

Replying to Sol’s explanation, MacG states, “It’s all manufactured, even her numbers are manufactured. They’re not real. She’s being pushed by the label… If you open up your phone right now, check the top 10 streamed songs in South Africa. It’s all artists that belong to major labels because they have a monopoly on the streams.”

[SHOCKER] “Tyla ‘s numbers are manufactured, they NOT real.”??

Many X (formerly Twitter) users felt that MacG was being a “hater,” while others understood his explanation:

Mac G is a hater and his fans will always defend him.

After a few weeks he will want tyla to come to his show and act suprised when tyla refuses to do so.

He said the same thing about maphorisa, he hates where he doesn’t benefit.

Nah he’s reaching. The point Sol made in the beginning makes sense.

Makes sense, there’s a lot of good music which hardly charts and one wonders how it happens when the song plateaus so early whilst others keep growing… then it reappears a few years later.

J. Cole said this about a lot of major artists. Their numbers are not what they seem, all being pushed by a machine.
