Dineo Ranaka speaks on experiencing major depression this week

by Johana Mukandila

Media personality Dineo Ranaka opened up about the tough week she’s had.

She shared a video on her Instagram timeline on Thursday, saying she and her partner had a tough week.

“Monday, I felt my depression real hard like I was battling with a major depression episode, I was fighting that, so I could not even bring myself out of bed, I could not even bring myself to eat,” she said.

She added: “Today I just feel numb.”

Dineo encouraged people to give themselves grace.

“This week has just thrown hands. He’s also tired, I’m tired, we are tired together. I’m blessed not to be alone through this struggle. I’m sharing because you might be going through the same thing. Give yourself grace, give yourself space, you have to allow yourself not to be OK if you are not OK. Give yourself permission to not be OK.”

The reality TV personality broke down in tears as she compared herself to singer Lira, who recently expressed her shock at having a stroke.

“That’s how I felt when my doctor said to me, ‘you have severe depression’. I said, ‘not me’. I guess we can make plans but God decides.”

Dineo recently joined the Podcast and Chill Network after her exit from Kaya 959.

She is currently hosting her own podcast, Dineo On Sex n Stuff.

She expressed how her family has been extremely supportive with the opening of her own podcast.

“My mom was visiting on the day and she was so excited for me and truly was an incredible cheerleader. I had shared with her my idea before I left for NYC. Actually, I shared the concept with my mom, best friend and partner soon after being discharged from a mental health hospital. They all said ‘do it’. Each of them represented the wings I needed to take flight. I know they didn’t fully get it, but they supported it regardless,” she wrote on her Instagram.
