South African DJ, Black Coffee, is only a few days away from becoming the first South African to headline a show at Madison Square Garden.

The DJ is set to perform on Saturday 7 October and recently announced the opening acts for his show, Black Coffee said each performer has played a significant role in his music career and he wanted them to experience the MSG with him.

“Each guest I’ve chosen to join me at @thegarden has played a special part in my musical journey and I can’t wait to experience music in The Garden with you.”

The Citizen reported that Black Coffee revealed why only some of his favourite artists would be joining him in new York.

“I have a song with Shekhinah, but couldn’t include it to my set, I just did a remix for a Snoh Aalegra song and could’ve had her at the show, but the song doesn’t fit the set. I build a set based on just music and then the artists would come through that selection,” he said.

Black Coffee also hosted a farewell party before he and the other acts head to New York. It was hosted by Castle Lite and the DJ revealed his vision of seeing African music on a global stage during a roundtable discussion.

“I’ve just always felt like this music deserves to be on the biggest platform as possible. I used to do interviews back in the day and I remember one journalist asked me, while I was in New York, ‘what are you trying to do’” he said.
