Anele Mdoda shares “unpopular opinion” about newsreaders’ wigs

by Jade Rhode

Producer and media personality Anele Mdoda had a few tweeps agreeing and disagreeing with her when she shared an “unpopular opinion” about how newsreaders need to stick to a look.

Taking to Twitter, Anele wrote the following:

“Unpopular opinion. Newsreaders on tv really need to stick to a look. News is about consistency, familiarity and trust. Changing wigs everyday shame… Hayi it’s not making sure. In your own time wig it ghel but on the desk…please.”

Anele’s ‘controversial’ tweet, quickly reaching a million views, had some people disagreeing with her opinion, while a few sided with the 947 radio host.

One tweep wrote, “Why should people conform to old ways of doing things ?? We are gen Z and people can be free to wear what they want.”

Why should people conform to old ways of doing things ?? We are gen Z and people can be free to wear what they want. Honestly don’t understand what y’all mean when you say it’s “distracting” so umuntu mele aguge to look professional ?

Another said, “Maybe, I don’t know but just maybe try and just listen to what comes out of their mouths(because that’s what NEWS is), instead of telling them to dress in a way that makes YOU feel comfortable. As if you don’t have your own body to exercise that autonomy.”

Some in agreement said, “I so love this, Changing wigs everyday is also very difficult to keep up with.”

It’s the fact that Zikhona Tshona, an award winning journalist with years of experience agrees with you..that’s really the only comment that matters!!??

Clarifying her tweet, Anele had the following to say when asked about afros and locs deemed unprofessional in the workplace.

Not the same. No one is dictating the hairstyle but it has to be consistent. https://t.co/PJZcUpiwE4
