AKA receives fifth BET nomination

Even in his absence, Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes is still receiving a nod from the music industry. The late rapper posthumously received his fifth nomination from the BET Awards.

He previously secured nominations in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019.

This year, AKA finds himself in the Best International Flow category alongside K.O and the following international artists:

  • Black Sherif (Ghana)
  • Central Cee (UK)
  • Gazo (France)
  • J Hus (UK)
  • Major Rd (Brazil)
  • Ninho (France)
  • Sampa The Great (Zambia)
  • Tasha & Tracie (Brazil)

The late Jika hitmaker also received nominations (AFRIMMA Album of the Year and Best Male Southern Africa) at the 10th edition of the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) which takes place on 17 September in Dallas, Texas.

Regarding news about the late rapper’s brutal murder, it was recently reported that the murder weapon that killed him and friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane was found.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi stated, “We have identified a couple of vehicles that were used. Some of the vehicles were used as getaway [vehicles]. Some were used as spotters. Some may have been used by people after the fact.”

He added, “We had identified at least one firearm that has been used and positively identified to have shot and killed Mr Forbes on that evening.”

The Lieutenant General also stated that SAPS “identified a few individuals” and that they would be in discussion with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) about bringing them in for questioning.

Police say they have identified the gun used to kill AKA, according to Commissioner Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi police have also positively identified the getaway car used.
