HHP, TKZee and Mango Groove to receive Lifetime Achievement Awards

The 25th annual South African Music Awards will honour veteran musicians HHP, TKZee and Mango Groove with Lifetime Achievement Awards. According to a statement from the SAMAs, the awards are in recognition of their achievements in music.

HHP will be honoured for his firsts; being the first artist to rap over a Kwaito beat and the first to have multiple successful syn deal.

Mango Groove, which was formed in 1984, will be honored for their outstanding contribution to South African music.

Kabelo Mabalane, Zwai Bala and Tokollo Tshabalala, who formed kwaito group TZKee, will be celebrated for being the bestselling kwaito group.

Head of the Recording Industry of South Africa (Risa) Nhlanhla Sibisi said in the statement: “TKZee heralded the early days of freedom with a sound so fresh and invigorating that they became legends in a short space of time. HHP entrenched and adapted the culture of hip hop to a South African audience as he shunned twanging and instead made Setswana fashionable,”

This was 2017. Motho receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award from the @satmaawards. It meant a lot to him because he believed dearly in the preservation of indigenous sounds & language. Fast forward to 2019 – I AM INSANELY PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT MOTHO WILL BE RECEIVING A LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FROM RiSA DURING THIS YEARS @thesamas_! Making him the FIRST hip hop artist to receive one and the YOUNGEST solo recipient of this prestigious recognition! I feel BEYOND blessed to have played a role in making this happen for him. But honestly he did it! This is all him. I’m just a vessel, executing a calling. I am a bag of emotions but mostly I am beaming at my King’s accomplishments & bravery. Motho, this is only the beginning… I promise! #SAMA25 #GOAT #TheBlueprint #IWillNotCower #143 ❤️
