Local film Back of the Moon won Best South African Feature film at the 2019 Durban International Film Festival. The movie stars S’dumo Mtshali, Richard Lukunku, Moneoa, Thomas Gumede, Lemogang Tsipa, Israel Matseke-Zulu, Sicelo Dlamini and Siyabonga Thwala.
Set in 1958 Sophiatown, the film tells the story of a famous musician who falls for a gang leader the night before leaving the country for a world tour with a theatre production. This is also the same night before blacks were forcibly removed from Sophiatown.
Back of the Moon will hit theatres on 6 September 2019.
