5 minutes with Kojo Baffoe

by Bongiwe Tshiqi

We chat to media mogul Kojo Baffoe about joining the Kaya FM family.

1.I have dabbled in many spaces, but my true calling is being a writer and storyteller. I try to be the best in all the spheres that I choose to discover.  I love exploring different creative spaces, and that is why my titles change all the time. I am an African who was brought up with a Pan African ideal, and my life and work always reflect that.

2. I believe that we are quick to give our opinions, especially on social media. I was brought up to express my opinion where I feel I can add value. In spaces where I am just another voice, I keep quiet. Just because I am in a position to be heard does not mean I have to say something.

3. I do talks around understanding content in a digital world. I believe it all boils down to the story. We are caught up in the idea of a platform being the focus, and forget that all different platforms enable us to tell a story; I always focus on the story.

4. I am the host of a talk show called Life with Kojo on Kaya FM from 8pm to 9pm on Thursday. My show is a space to talk about the other dimension of life; I have insightful conversations with different people on various topics and experiences. I also work closely with the news team and producers. I’m excited that some of my conversations will be video-recorded.

5. One of my favourite phrases is “Don’t believe the hype”. I find working in the media weird sometimes because I am a writer, and part of my job comes with a public persona. I choose to believe that people engage with me because of my work. It’s about putting in the work and not believing in the hype.
