5 Mins With Skeem Saam’s Cornet Mamabolo

by Boitumelo Mmakou

The Limpopo-born and Joburg raised actor says his background has helped him be the best at what he does. He chats to us about his side job, his icon and the idea he has of the perfect girl. cornette-

How has your background come in handy for you?

When I moved to Joburg, I only knew how to speak Sepedi. Growing up in a city filled with various cultures and languages, I had to learn to speak them so I would fit in. This all came in handy when acting.

How did you get into acting?

I was part of an acting club at the community centre in Ivory Park. This is where I fell in love with the craft. Cornet

We know you as Cornet the actor, but are there other activities that keep you busy?

I would not call them activities, but rather jobs. When I am not on set for Skeem Sam, I run my own production business MNM Media Consulting Company. I spend time with some friends or with my girlfriend and watch plenty of theatre productions.

What would you say is the best movie you’ve seen?

There are a few great movies I have loved, but iNumber Number for me is the best local movie by far. skeem-sam

Who, in your opinion, is the best actor?

I am inspired by Denzel Washington. He is a very calm and collected actor, yet his acting skills are explosive. He is reserved and powerful in his actions. I love that he does not have to be loud to be heard.

We know you are in a relationship, but how do you describe your perfect woman?

I would like to date someone independent, but dependent on me as well… (Laughs). I like to be with someone I can trust and who has a giving heart. Cornet-2

What would be an ideal place for a date?

The one thing I know I would like to do with my girlfriend is to take her to my hometown in Limpopo, so she can have an idea of where I come from.
