5 Mins With Khanya Mkangisa

by Amanda Ndlangisa

Khanya Mkangisa broke into the industry at the tender age of 15 as a YoTV presenter, now all grown and sexy, we chat to the child star about her acting career and her new role on Isidingo.

Khanya-mkangisa-

How did you get into the industry?

I was a Yotv presenter at 15.

When did you decide that acting is something you wanted to get into?

While I was a kids’ presenter

How has the acting journey been so far?

Better than I thought. The response has been great.

What are some of the challenges you face in your industry?

There are lots of people who are trying to get into acting and only a limited number of roles. I overcome these challenges by following my own path and journey and not comparing yourself to anyone else.

Khanya-YoTV-

How has the transition from child star to grown woman been?

Because I look younger than I am, one of the challenges I’ve faced transitioning from a kids’ presenter to adulthood is in the roles I audition for or choose to play. It’s been a challenge getting older roles, but I don’t mind this because it just translates to possible longevity for me.

How are people receiving the older, grown and sexy Khanya?

I’ve generally just been lucky to have been received well by the viewers of the shows I’ve been on – when I was young and as a grown up.

Tell us about Isidingo? How did it come about?

I was called in to read for the part and about a week later I found out that I got it.

Mkangisa

Who will you be playing?

18 year old Aphiwe Ndzimande. She is Skhumbuzo’s sister.

What can people expect from you on the soapie?

Exploring the dynamics my character has with her big brother, Skhu. Played by Sisa Hewana.

What advice would you give aspiring actors?

If you’re in it for the right reasons, don’t give up, you may be an audition away from your big break.
