Nobody likes flaky lips. And, if you are a fan of matte lipstick then you definitely need a lesson on exfoliating. A lip scrub contains two components, an exfoliant and a nourishing agent. Say goodbye to chapped lips, and hello to a kissable pout with these easy-to-make sugar scrubs.

1. Honey and sugar scrub.

Ingredients

  • One teaspoon honey
  • Two teaspoons sugar (white or brown)

Why it works: Sugar is a natural exfoliator, and it adds moisturising benefits to your lips when mixed with honey.

Step 1. Mix honey and sugar to make a thick paste.

Step 2. Apply mixture to your lips, and leave on for 10 minutes.

Step 3. Remove by washing it off with warm water or damp cloth.

2. Orange peel and almond oil scrub

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons dried orange peel
  • 12 drops of almond oil
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Why it works: The orange peel helps brighten dark lips, and almond oil acts a moisturising agent.

Step 1. Grind the orange peel into fine powder.

Step 2. Mix powder, oil and sugar.

Step 3. Apply mixture to your lips for about 30–60 seconds.

Step 4. Remove by washing it off with warm water or damp cloth.

Beauty editor’s tips

  • Be gentle and don’t over exfoliate your lips. Once a week is enough.
  • Always apply a rich lip balm after moisturising to help keep your lips healthy and soft.
  • You can use substitute honey with olive oil.
  • For quick exfoliation, apply lip balm and use a toothbrush to gently brush your lips.
  • Don’t be rough when removing the scrub or you will risk injury or infection.
