New kid on the block

by Ayanda Sithole
Una Rams New Music

Musician Una Rams is the new kid on the block in the music scene.  His music merges different genres to deliver unique and memorable songs.  We chatted to him about his unique style of music.

By Fundiswa Nkwanyana

I express myself by creating music with lyrics that tell a story.  We all have something to say, and although our stories may not be the same they share many similarities.  I believe that by creating music about my experiences and those of others I emotionally connect with the listener.

My music is inspired by sounds that I hear on a daily basis.  I’m a good listener and I channel what I hear around me into music.  From the sound I hear when I play a game on my cell phone, to the whistling of a car guard, all these sounds inspire me to create songs.  I believe that I’m merely a vessel that channels sounds into song.

I’ve been working on a very precious project titled Wavy Baby.  It’s for cuddling, head rubs, tears and smiles.  My team and I have worked very hard to make this a memorable experience.  Through it, I tell a love story without a happy ending because life is no fairy-tale.

Now that I have completed my studies, I’m now focusing on my music career.  I believe that education is the key to success, and I’m proud that at the age of 22 I’ve finished my degree in computer science.  I’m passionate about music and education and I look forward to excelling in both my passions.

I’m humbled and grateful to be performing at festivals. Some of my career highlights include performing at the One Source Live Festival that was held in Johannesburg, earlier this year.  To think that just about two years ago, I was a kid that uploaded songs on the internet and they were listened to by a handful of people, and today I’m performing alongside artists that I look up to.  It’s amazing.
