Celebs in action on Mandela Day!

by Kwanele Mathebula

The 18th of July 2017 marks the 99th birthday of former statesman Nelson Mandela and the annual 67 Minutes for Mandela Day initiative. Many of our favourite celebrities were out and about doing good in their communities and shared their acts of service across social media.

We have a round-up of what a few of them got up to below.

He loved us, he believed in us, he made us believe in ourselves, he gave us the courage to stand up for our own convictions, he inspired us to make a decision. uMadiba, uSopitsho, uYem-Yem, uNgqolomsila. Aah Dalibhunga!!! In support of the Thembekile Mandela Foundation, today we launch #TheRedScarfChallenge. This campaign is in aid of girls in informal settlements and rural areas that miss school during their monthly cycles. On average a girl child misses 384 days of her school career. uTata once said: “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.” We ask you to donate R250, wears a red scarf today and take a picture, uses the hashtag #RedScarfChallenge and challenge your friends to do the same to create awareness and ofcourse you can donate howere much you can for this worthy cause. So blessed to have been part of the team that will help feed 58 000 children just this year #mandeladay #timessquare #stophungernow

? #MandelaDay – Today I spent my day packing food for 58 000 children. It’s always good giving back because we forget how fortunate we are and how we can take out fortunes to help those in need. It felt good to know I’m doing good, to forget my problems and remember that there are people out there with bigger problems than I. So in my pic are expiration dates for the food, I’m hurt that at some point this is all they’ll have and some of them won’t get anything beyond this. I wish we could extend such campaigns or days instead of having them once. Anything that actively makes change is for me…long term change. Thank you @timesquareza for the invite and initiative on this day! #MandelaDay #Rise4Good

It’s always important to live not only for yourself but for the good of others. Your existence is not just for you but to build those that follow after you. To commemorate this day & what our beloved Madiba held close to his heart….children, a whole bunch of us packed food for kids that will be fed across the nation via the #StopHunger initiative. Children are the foundation for the future…. it all begins in what we do for them… let’s not forget. #Blessings #GodsWorks #RefilweModiselle #GodsBabygirl #Visionary #AfricasFirstSuccesfulModelWithAlbinism #TVHost #Model #MC #Speaker #VoiceOverArtist #Actress #Activist #CNNAfricanGameChanger #OprahsPowerList2013 #TheMunroBoutiqueHotelAmbassador #GlobalSoul #Gratitude #GodAtWork
