Omuhle Gela is no newcomer to the small screen. She made her acting debut on Zabalaza, giving her the experience she needed to conquer greater heights in the industry. Apart from her television work, the 25-year-old has a love for fashion and business, which explains why she started her own swimwear range, Twenty Swimwear, a year ago.

She tells us about it and more.

1.What are the challenges you face when running a swimwear business?

I hardly face any challenges because I run the business online. This was a safe choice for me financially because right now, I can’t afford to have a store. The business works on a demand-supply basis.

2. Who can wear Twenty Swimwear?

I created swimwear for all body types and sizes.

3. Your business has been successfully running for a year. What’s the trick to succeeding?

I did my research and took marketing very seriously. When you have a business, you also have to learn to be patient because it won’t grow overnight.

4. Now let’s talk about acting. You were well received by fans of Umlilo. What can we expect in the next season?

We are currently shooting the next season. My character, Andile, is growing into a powerful woman. I have personally grown as an actor by playing her. Fans should expect a mature side of me in the next season.

5. Andile is a troubled girl with parent issues. What would your advice be to fans with similar problems?

Communication is key. Andile never spoke to her parents about what was happening in her life. Should she have opened up to them to avoid negative energy at home. Children need to be open and honest with their parents. Likewise, parents need to also make time for their kids and show interest in their lives.

6. How do you prepare for the roles you play?

I research my characters, find references and spend time understanding them. This may sound strange, but acting is an adventure. I enjoy playing a different person; it’s so much fun!

7. What is the next step you would like to take in the acting industry?

I studied film and television producing at AFDA, so I would love to be an executive producer.
