Blaq Diamond wins third court case against Ambitiouz Entertainment

Musical duo Ndumiso ‘Ndu Browns’ Mdletshe and Siphelele ‘Danya Devs’ Dunywa, who make up the group Blaq Diamond, have secured another win against their former record label Ambitiouz Entertainment.

In October last year, the duo filed an urgent court application after Ambitiouz removed their song Qoma, featuring Big Zulu, from YouTube, claiming copyright of the song, reports Sunday World. In response to the claims, the label’s founder Kgosi Mahumapelo stated the artists breached their contract. In July this year, Blaq Diamond victoriously interdicted the label, as well as YouTube, from removing their music. However, they could not release new music after the ruling was appealed by Ambitiouz.

The controversial record label lost the court appeal against the two musicians and were ordered to pay costs of the court application by the Johannesburg High Court, reports Sunday World.

Blaq Diamond’s lawyer, Jade Naidoo, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce their win, writing, “Congratulations to my client AGAIN! Blaq Diamond for winning against Ambitiouz Entertainment for the third time! Ambitiouz leave to appeal is dismissed with costs! Round 3 in the bag.”

According to The South African, Blaq Diamond signed their first contract with Ambitiouz in 2017 and renewed it in 2020 before leaving in January 2022. The Umuthi hitmakers won their first court case in June, and won again in August.
