‘Get a team’: Ifani advises upcoming artists

by Unathi Balele

Rapper Mzayifani Mzondeleli Boltina better known as iFani has penned a piece of advice to upcoming artists in the music industry.

Taking to his X (previously known as Twitter) timeline, iFani says it is unwise to struggle alone in the game as an independent artist.

“To my fellow UPCOMING ARTISTS: Independent artist doesn’t mean By Yourself. It means Without A Major Record Label. Truth is, you can’t win ALONE; By Yourself. Even if you could, you still need a team to travel with & work with. You can’t do everything By Yourself. So, get a team,” he wrote.

To my fellow UPCOMING ARTISTS:

Independent Artist doesn’t mean
By Yourself.

It means Without A Major Record Label.

Truth is, u can’t win ALONE; By Yourself.
Even if you could, you still need a team to travel with & work with.
U can’t do everythin By Yourself.

So, get a team!

iFani also recently shared some of the reasons why he decided to leave the music industry at the peak of his career.

Following an interview on The Hustler’s Corner SA with DJ Sbu, he opened up about some key factors that played a role in him stepping back from his career.

The 37-year-old Mthatha-born hip-hop/rap artist is best known for his hits titled Shake, Chocolate & Vanilla, Ewe, and several others. According to The South African, the talented musician went on hiatus for nearly six years due to immense pressure from the music industry and other personal reasons.

During the interview with DJ Sbu, iFani revealed that he didn’t intentionally take a break from music and that “life just happened.” He also further revealed that he had been clashing with late rapper AKA.
