R&B fans are in for a treat this Thursday and Saturday as award-winning songstress Deborah Cox is set to perform alongside singer and songwriter Musiq Soulchild in Cape Town and Pretoria to headline this year’s Magic Music Sessions.

Known for classic hits such as Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here, Where Do We Go From Here and Sentimental, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee explained her writing process and the inspiration behind her songs. “I’m inspired by a lot of different things – life, I might see a movie that might inspire or conjure up an idea.

“I don’t write as much now just because I have a lot of different things going on, but what I do know is when I have a project happening, I’ll get in the studio and write. It takes me forever and it’s frustrating, but I think that writing is very, very personal and intimate. So that’s part of the reason why I don’t like to write because I don’t want to reveal that part of myself.”

Deborah also revealed to BONA her excitement to share the stage with Musiq Soulchild.

“I’m thrilled! I love his music. When Vertex [Events] presented the idea, they wanted to have a male and female… and they wanted to show both sides of the great music from the 90s or 2000s. Not to date us but I think it’s a great collaboration!”

Catch Deborah Cox and Musiq Soulchild live at GrandWest tonight and at the Sunbet Arena on Saturday.
