The celebration of women continues! On Thursday, 29 June, the nominees for the second edition of the Basadi in Music Awards were announced at the Joburg Theatre. Recipients Nhlanhla Mafu, Thando Thabethe and Boity are set to receive the CEO Mosadi in Business Achievement Award.
The awards show celebrates female talent and achievements in the music industry. “The spirit of the awards is to uplift, celebrate and showcase just what women can achieve when given the platform to shine,” it explains on its website. “We will also honour generations of women who played heroic roles in the liberation of women in the country, the continent of Africa and the world at large.”
Media personality Candice Modiselle hosted the nominees’ announcement event. Lwah Ndlunkulu, the first lady of Inkabi Records, is now also the leading lady as she has four nominations under her belt.
New categories were also introduced, such as Basadi in Music In Africa, Nando’s Emerging Artist of the Year and Reggae Artist of the Year.
