“Good luck to all the beautiful ladies who gave it a shot and congratulations to those who are through to the top 30??♥️,” wrote one Instagram user.

“Omg it’s happening!” wrote another on Twitter.

Not too long ago, the Miss South Africa pageant, which started in 1956 in Apartheid South Africa, announced that they would be changing the criteria for entrants. The pageant will officially allow single mothers, pregnant, married, trans and queer women and everyone who identifies with being a woman to enter the competition.

Miss SA CEO Stephanie Weil reportedly told Newsroom Afrika that their decision was based on international beauty standards. She also added that beauty is diverse and should be showcased in its different forms.

When speaking to Metro FM, Stephanie stated, “We as women, are so many things. We can be business owners, leaders, innovators, influencers, mothers, daughters, philanthropists, role models, ambassadors and queens all at the same time.

“Showcasing the multi-diverse nature of all of this will be at the core of the competition. Miss SA is no longer one night, viewers are really going to get to know the finalists during the television show.”
