Foods to avoid if you have braces

by Unathi Balele
braces

If you’re one of the many people who have braces, you know that it’s important to take good care of them. That means brushing and flossing regularly, as well as avoiding certain foods that can damage or get stuck in your braces.

Here are some foods to avoid when you have braces by Straight Smile:

Sticky and Chewy Foods

Foods like caramel, taffy, and chewing gum are some of the worst offenders when it comes to braces. These sticky, chewy foods can easily get stuck in your braces and be difficult to remove. They can also pull on your wires and brackets, causing them to loosen or break.

Hard Foods

Hard foods like nuts, popcorn, and hard candy can also cause problems for people with braces. These foods can put a lot of pressure on your teeth and braces, which can lead to broken brackets and wires. They can also be difficult to chew, which can make it hard to maintain good oral hygiene.

Crunchy Foods

Crunchy foods like chips and pretzels may seem harmless, but they can also be a problem for people with braces. These foods can easily get stuck in your braces and be difficult to remove. They can also put pressure on your teeth and braces, which can lead to damage.

Sugary Foods

Sugary foods like candy and soda are bad for your teeth in general, but they can be especially problematic for people with braces. The sugar in these foods can get trapped in your braces and increase your risk of developing cavities. If you do indulge in sugary foods, be sure to brush and floss thoroughly afterwards.
