Do eye creams really work?

Eye creams don’t work instantly. Some believe that by using an eye cream, their wrinkles will completely vanish. Unfortunately, eye creams do not work in this manner.

Botox is the go-to treatment for dramatically smoothing the skin around the eyes if you’re looking for a quick fix. The good news is that over time, eye creams does keep the eye area moisturized and keeps wrinkles away or at a minimum.

What is an eye cream?

Eye cream is a type of moisturizer formulated specifically for the eye area. While some people choose to use general face cream on the skin around the eyes, this area requires extra care.

“The skin around the eyes is thin and delicate and signs of aging often first become apparent in this delicate tissue,” says Hadley King, MD, a dermatologist in New York City.

Twin Ports Dermatology lets us know that the first areas to display fatigue and aging symptoms are the delicate, thin area around the eyes. Weakening of the collagen and elastin fibers is what causes fine lines and wrinkles. Under-eye blood pooling is typically indicated by dark circles. It appears as bruising or dark circles when tiny veins leak under the eye area. Supporting the capillaries and removing dark circles require a healthy, robust skin matrix.

To get the most out of eye creams, one should take the time to gently exfoliate the area around the eyes two to three times per week with a mild exfoliant. This gets rid of dead skin cells, which increases the likelihood that eye creams will work.
