Ideas on how to save electricity

Electricity bills are getting expensive each day and it helps to get a few pointers on how you can save electricity.

South Africa has a short supply of electricity, meaning the prices will remain high. Direct axes has come up with easy ways that can help you save electricity:

Unplug stand by appliances – Electricity can still draw from plugged appliances even if you’re not using them, for example, unplug kettles, chargers, blenders and other appliances immediately when they are not in use.

Cautious of how you use your stove – Cooking or boiling water on the stove while the pots are opened can consume power, also the size of the pot you cook with should be the size of the stove.

Keep your geyser warm – cover it with a geyser blanket to stop the heat from escaping.

Shower – taking showers instead of using bath tubs can help you save electricity because It’s quick and you use less water.

Away with heaters – Instead of using power hungry heaters, layer up and rather use a blanket.

According to Businesstech here are some tips that will help you save a lot of electricity:

  1. Switch to energy efficient light bulbs, some are expensive but they last longer.
  2. Switch off all your lights in other rooms of your house at night and leave the ones from the room you’re using.
  3. Change to smart plugs, you can set these for all your appliances using it companion app that allows you to set preferences and schedules.
