Zolani Mahola is launching her solo career. The star fronted the award-winning music group, Freshlyground, since its inception 17 years ago sharing stages with musical icons such as Stevie Wonder, Miriam Makeba, BB King, Oliver Mtukudzi, and Vusi Mahlasela.
Zolani shared her excitement at her venture. She said in part: “It’s been an epic journey, and Freshlyground will always be an integral part of my life story. I’m extremely proud of what our band has achieved and how we were able to unite our country through music and take our unique sound to the world. It may seem like the end of an era, but it’s certainly not goodbye.”
On what to expect from her as a solo artist, Zolani shared in part: “The focus of my work will be to encourage others to investigate their own histories and present in the face of the collective story – my story…our story.”
Zolani’s final performance with Freshlyground will take place on new year’s eve 3at Kirstenbosch Gardens in Cape Town before taking a break to focus on her solo career.
