Rihanna shares a sneak peek at her new fashion line

Rihanna has given the world a look at her upcoming fashion line, Fenty. This comes a few weeks after announcing a history-making deal making her the first black woman to launch her own luxury fashion label under the fashion conglomerate, LVMH. Fenty will include special-edition pieces, available for limited timeframes, and core items.

According to a press release from LMVH, Fenty will operate outside of the traditional fashion season. “Retailing via multiple incremental Releases on a “See-Now-Wear-Now” model. Each of the releases, focused on a specific selection of product, will express a new facet of a woman and her wardrobe,” the statement says.

In an interview with The New York Time Style Magazine’s, the star shared how the deal came about sharing in part: “I’ve been slowly evolving throughout the fashion world. First wearing it, buying it, being recognized for my style and then collaborating with brands. I never just wanted to put my name on something and sell my license. I’m very hands-on, so I wanted to take it slowly and gain respect as a designer. I already had a relationship with them after the Versailles campaign and the makeup line, so they extended the offer to me and it was a no-brainer because LVMH is a machine. Bernard Arnault was so enthusiastic; he trusted me and my vision.”

Fenty will debut online on 29 May 2019.

“I want to be as disruptive as possible,” says #Rihanna. “The brand is not traditional. There is no runway show. It’s a new way of doing things because I believe that this is where fashion is going to go eventually.” When Fenty.com goes live on May 29, it will be one of few luxury brands to commit fully to online sales: There are no plans for runway shows, flagship boutiques or third-party sales through department stores. New clothes will instead “drop” each month on the website, similar to the model pioneered by the streetwear brand Supreme.
